Saiah is playing her first season of softball. Jason and I weren't too sure if she'd like it, as she's a mover. Playing on a team of 7 and 8 year-olds that have barely held a bat or ball isn't exactly heart pounding excitement. We had to chuckle at some practices because there would be Saiah...in the outfield, kicking dirt and weeds with her shoes, making circles and yes, one time...sitting down!!! I have to admit, those practices were a bit on the boring side, so I don't blame her. As soon as the real games started, she perked up a bit and has been a stellar ball player(hey, I'm her mom, I can gloat!). Saiah has a great swing and is able to connect pretty well with the ball. The coach switches the girls every time so they get to learn all the positions, but Saiah's favorite has been the pitcher position. She doesn't pitch at this age..but she gets to field the balls that come her way and she's not too shabby. It helps to keep her alert when she knows the ball is coming her way!
I'm thankful that she hasn't taken after me in throwing the bat. Yeah...I was a bat thrower. In fact, I gave a catcher on another team some stitches due to my heavy throwing abilities. She happened to be a friend, although...I can't remember if we remained friends post bat incident. Actually, Saiah seems to be inheriting most all of Jason's athletic abilities. I hear he was quite the ball player and to this day is good at sports, despite all the aches and pains that come with participating now.
We are staying busy with Saiah's games alone. Then you throw into the mix Jason's softball games for our church coed team and it seems like all we are doing these days is going to softball games! Fun times indeed!

Good Friday
So as not to lose focus amongst the colored Easter eggs, candy and brightly colored grass, we must remember why we celebrate our risen Lord on Easter Sunday. Jason and I are looking forward to watching Mark Driscoll's Good Friday service tonight as a family via live stream from his church, Mars Hill in Seattle. Below is a very graphic, yet necessary video to remind us just what Jesus went through and just how very much God loves us. Thank you Jesus for dying on the cross....something I take for granted WAY too often.

Following in Mommy's "thumbprints"
Yes, I admit it...I was a thumb sucker. And as most thumb suckers would agree, I have fond memories of my time with just me and my thumb. For maximum soothing affect, I had to have my right thumb in mouth, and my forefinger up over my nose so as to stroke it. I know, sounds funny, but it was AWESOME!! So awesome in fact that I was quite old when my thumb and I departed from our close relationship. I'm venturing out to say that I was in either 4th or 5th grade when we parted ways. Yep. That old.
It looks as if Craig is following after his mommy. It has me a bit concerned, just because of how LONG I "needed" my thumb. I remember my uncle asking me over, and over and over again what flavor my thumb was. Because, surely nobody in their right mind would suck on an appendage unless it tasted good!! I also not so fondly remember my parents smearing some terrible flavored substance onto my beloved thumb in attempts to stop the habit....not sure what happened there, but it didn't work. My grandparents will tell you that I was a NOISY thumb sucker and often would wake them up on our annual trips to Bandon.
Nevertheless, I must admit, it is so precious to watch him find his thumb and try to keep it in his mouth. It has only happened a couple of times - otherwise it's usually just his fist he can get up there. And, if he doesn't get it to stay, or is unable to get his thumb, he gets MAD!!
We'll see if Craig does indeed forge a friendship with his thumb and for how long the two will last together. I don't think I'll be asking my parents for advice on how to detach a child from their thumb, seeing I was just about married before I broke my habit!

Hanging out with Daddy
While Jason had some time off, he and Saiah took to the woods to look for some shed horns. They packed a picnic lunch and headed out for some special Daddy/Daughter time.
